Obon 2013

Obon is a national holiday in Japan that comes around every August. The whole country takes a vacation at the same time... roads are crowded... flights and hotels are expensive and almost completely booked out... and the weather is unbelievably, unbearably HOT.

This year we didn`t travel abroad, but managed to have fun at home, and on a one-night trip to Shirahama (in Wakayama).

Some pics from the week;

So nice to spend a week with Yoshi and have 7 sunny days in a row!

Hot summer days...

Hot, sweltering, sticky...

This is why we can`t do anything these days except this..

It is really too hot to even move!

Rokko-san Country House (六甲山カンツリーハウス)

We spent a few hours yesterday at Rokko-san Country House (English site here) which is a kind of farmlet located at the top of Rokko mountain in Kobe.

They have a snow festival on at the moment where kids can enjoy a bit of snow and everyone can cool down in the height of summer (open 11:30-16:00 until September 1st).

You can access Country House by cable-car (access page here in Japanese only), or car.

Here are some pics from our day out...

So nice to play in the snow... almost 10 degrees cooler than the 35 degrees in the city!!
